Starkey Comfort Occluded domes
Starkey Comfort Occluded domes are soft-silicone tips designed for receiver-in-canal (RIC) and thin-tube Starkey hearing aids. They create a tighter acoustic seal in the ear canal, enhancing bass response and reducing unwanted feedback.
Why choose Occluded over Open
An occluded dome blocks more of the sound from leaking out, which is beneficial if your hearing aid produces whistling or if you require more amplification in lower frequencies. The design ensures a consistent acoustic seal and minimizes slippage or “puckering” inside the ear.
Compatibility and sizes
These domes are compatible with Starkey’s RIC and thin-tube models, including Destiny, Livio, Halo, Muse, Zon, and others. They are interchangeable with older “Standard” domes. Available in sizes 5 mm, 6 mm, 7 mm, 9 mm, and 11 mm.
Usage and replacement
Replace occluded domes every 1–2 months, or sooner if you detect discoloration, blockage, or diminished sound quality.
To replace:
- Grip the base of the dome or thin tube and pull to remove.
- Align the new dome correctly.
- Push firmly until securely seated.
Benefits
Starkey Comfort Occluded domes deliver improved acoustic performance by creating a secure seal in the ear canal, which enhances sound clarity and maintains stable amplification. The tight fit reduces the risk of feedback and ensures consistent sound delivery across frequencies. Their soft silicone material adapts comfortably to the ear’s shape, minimizing irritation during extended use. By forming an effective barrier against moisture, wax, and dirt, the domes help preserve the internal components of the hearing aid and extend its service life. Regular replacement ensures the domes continue to provide both comfort and optimal sound performance.
Note on occlusion effect
Because occluded domes block more of the ear canal, some wearers may notice a booming or hollow sensation from their own voice. This is the occlusion effect, a known phenomenon when ear canal sound pathways are altered.
